Colours
• Create artwork and layout in CMYK (and/or spot colours) not RGB.
• Remove unused colours from the palette – especially spot colours.
• Spot colours should be consistent – exactly the same name should be used for spot colours in imported artwork as in the layout file.
Fonts
• When specifying bold or italic text, make sure specific fonts are installed – do not just use the Control palette.
• Use a rule for underlining.
• Include all fonts in the package supplied – do not include entire font library.
• Postscript fonts have two components – screen font and printer font. Both are needed.
• EPS images from a drawing program such as Illustrator, CorelDraw and Freehand should have text converted to outlines/curves.
• Ensure fonts contained within the artwork are included in the package of fonts.
Images
• All images should be 300 dpi and100%.
• Cropping, rotating, inverting and resizing should be done in an image editing program, not the layout program.
• Image files should be placed in the layout – do not use copy/paste or insert/object.
• Image files should be linked, not embedded.
• Use TIF for raster graphics (pixel-based) and EPS for vector graphics or raster graphics that include vector elements such as text, or are duotones.
• Avoid JPGs, GIFs, BMPs and WMFs.
• Include all linked images in the package sent to Newtone, otherwise a low-resolution preview image will be printed.
Other
• Provide a printout for all pages at 100% of final size.
• If emailing your file – fax a hardcopy. The fax number for Newtone Press is 03 98745875.
• Press-ready files should not contain any objects or text not intended for output, including on the pasteboard.
